essential activities

I’ve been struggling a bit about how to keep going with this blog and still be cognizant of the multiple dumpster fires that are burning around the globe. After a lot of thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that some distractions are necessary to keep us from all going off the deep end. I hope this blog can serve as a little distraction for you and maybe even a little hope. The act of writing it certainly lands among my coping mechanisms. Enjoy!

Just last week, with 7 COVID cases confirmed in the town to the north of us, we’ve been trying to continue distancing and staying home as much as possible. However, with the increase in stress cooking (it is a great distraction for me), we have found an increased need for exercise as well.

If you have been following along, you know we are pretty damn remote. The town doesn’t even have an ATM. That, coupled with a lot of the seasonal folks leaving to go back to their summer homes (mostly US and Canada), it is pretty easy to find outdoor spaces without another soul in sight. For a few years now, we have been looking out at the cliff above Pedrito Point and talking about hiking it. Well, last week, we finally tackled it.

“trail”

The trail starts out as many do here – with a dirt road. A little bit up the road, we saw an area where the locals have been mining shale. The rock colors were stunning!

After a nice little climb up and over the hill, we spotted a little cove nestled between the cliffs.

Deciding to continue up and over the hill behind, we traversed through grassy slopes that reminded me of the golden California hills.

Saw this monster barrel cactus just lounging near the top.

On the way back down, we got a great view of our town. Our house is near the smaller hill to the left of the hill at the end of the beach. We want to go back and see if we can get further next time. <3
